Description: 

Ph.D. in Advanced Methods in Biotechnology and Biodiversity

Courses aim at training students in the application of the wide variety of advanced methods that are used in research, which are led by the faculty labs, e.g.: Advanced molecular cytogenetics; Chromatin immunostaining methods; Plant morphogenesis in vivoand in vitro; Cyto- and histochemical analysis of embryonic animal tissues; Biomarkers in studies of exposure and effects of xenobiotics in the environment; Biotechnology of microorganisms; Practical bioinformatics; Plant functional genomics; Techniques for biodiversity of soil microorganisms, plants and animals. All courses are taught in English.

Graduate skills:

Students obtain skills in the advanced methods that are used in Biotechnology and Biodiversity research and are led by the departments of the Faculty of Biology and Environment Protection. They also improve their presentation skills and participate in departmental and faculty seminars.

All PhD students are involved in original research projects leading to the PhD degree. The supervision is provided by the senior academic staff and is in line with the research profile of the department involved.

Career opportunities:

Being trained in advanced lab techniques and presentation of results in English, students completing the PhD programme and obtaining the PhD degree are prepared to join research groups at institutions involved in Biotechnology, Biodiversity and Biology studies, both in basic and applied sciences.

Tuition, other fees applicable:

  • EU/EFTA citizens applying on a regular basis – no fees;
  • Non-EU/EFTA citizens: 3 000 EUR per year;
  • 200 EUR – application fee.

Other requirements:

  • a valid health certificate issued by an authorised health care institution stating no counter indications to the student starting higher education studies (subject to the field of study);
  • an insurance policy covering illness and personal accident insurance for the duration of study in Poland;
  • a completed application form;
  • 3 ID photographs.
