European Higher Education Fair in Indonesia

This year’s European Higher Education Fair in Indonesia, held in Surabaya (October 9, 2013) and Jakarta (October 12-13, 2013), was a great occasion for Indonesian students to take a closer look at Polish higher education institutions.

Undoubtedly, one of the showpieces of the EHEF were the Polish stands. Over 1000 students visited them and over 600 registered in order to remain in contact with universities from Poland. The Polish embassy in Jakarta along with five representatives from Polish universities presented the vast range of opportunities for studying in Poland – over 400 English study programs. The most popular fields of study were: economics, mathematics, international relations, computer science, mechanical engineering and environmental protection.

Compared to the previous edition, the Polish stands were three times more popular, which shows that Indonesian students are more aware of the fact that Poland could be their best choice. Interestingly, approx. 500 students expressed their willingness to learn Polish. The Polish embassy in Jakarta hopes to meet this demand in the future.

Hopefully, this year’s success will encourage more Polish universities to participate in EHEF and even more Indonesian students to study in our country. The EHEF opening in Jakarta was attended by Igor Kaczmarczyk, chargé d’affaires at the Polish embassy in Jakarta, and the welcome speech at the Surabaya part was offered by Maciej Duszyński, the Polish consul, who was responsible for the coordination of the program. Soedomo Mergonoto, the honorary consul of Poland in Surabaya, supported participants from Poland meaningfully during their stay in Surabaya.
